A Question of Trust

4 But You, Adonai, are a shield around me,
my glory and the lifter of my head.
5 I cry out to Adonai with my voice,
and He answers me from His holy mountain.

                                                                                         Selah
I lie down and sleep.
I awake—for Adonai sustains me.
                                               Psalms 3:4-6

Think about that for a minute.......David wrote these words when he was fleeing from his son Absalom. Yet in the midst of fleeing for his life, he cries out to God in praise of His protection. Can we say that we have that kind of faith in Him? When we are faced with problems at work or the money isn't there to pay all the bills, do we still praise Him for his provision? How about when the one we thought was a friend turns on us, do we thank God for His protection? Or do we turn to fear and worry?

It all comes down to trusting in God to keep His promises. David knew what God promised and trusted that it would come to pass. In this trust he was able to put aside his natural fear and "lie down and sleep". He did not let fear rule his life, he turned that fear over to God and trusted in His protection. He didn't lie in bed worrying about what could happen or planning on how to fix the situation. He cried out to God in prayer, "Lord, you are my shield". David acknowledged God as the one who could protect him and that he could do nothing on his own.
Trusting in God's protection and provision starts with one small step. For me that step will be echoing Davids prayer.
Lord, you are my shield and protector. Any glory I have comes from You, You lift me up when I have fallen weather it is of my own doing or through the attack of others. I cry out to You knowing You will answer. I am able to rest knowing You are watching over me. In Jesus name, Amen.
